Half title (some mainly marginal spotting and staining to the first few leaves including the half title and title, spotting at edges). Original terracotta cloth, the spine lettered in gilt, dust-jacket by Ronald Searle with the price of 15s. unclipped (some tiny marginal tears). Provenance: "May 1956" (very small stamp on the front free endpaper). FIRST EDITION. Please note that the original dust-jacket has been photographed in its modern protective archival Mylar wrapper, thereby avoiding any risk of damage through its temporary removal. With the same author's Hemlock and After (London, 1952, 8vo, original green cloth, dust-jacket) and The Old Men at the Zoo (London, 1961, 8vo, original tan cloth, dust-jacket), both FIRST EDITIONS.
