Original holland-backed pale blue paper boards, with a publisher's advertisement for two other lectures "uniform with the present volume" loosely-inserted (some light staining to the boards). Provenance: From the Collection of Clive Wilmer (1945-2025, with his signature, dated 2010, on the front pastedown; please see lot 418 for further biographical information). FIRST EDITION. The colophon states: "Printed at the Chiswick Press, and finished on the 18th day of April, 1898. Published by Longmans & Co., Paternoster Row, London."
