ANGLING - Thomas Tod STODDART (1810-80). The Art of Angling as Practised in Scotland ... Second Edition. Edinburgh: W. & R. Chambers, 1836. Small 8vo (155 x 105mm). Woodcut vignette on the title, illustrations. Original cloth, printed title label on the upper cover (stating, after the title, "Second Edition, greatly enlarged"), the spine lettered in gilt (small piece torn away from the label not affecting letters, bumped). The text is interspersed with unattributed poems or "songs" which are almost certainly the author's own, since, in addition to his writings on angling, he also published at least two collections of verse. Westwood & Satchell Bibliotheca piscatoria (1883) p.203. With 7 other books of related interest, namely Cornwall Simeon's Stray Notes on Fishing and Natural History (Cambridge, 1860, 8vo, frontispiece, original pictorial cloth gilt), Izaak Walton & Charles Cotton's The Complete Angler (London, 1861, 8vo, plates and illustrations, attractively bound in modern half morocco gilt), H. Cholmondeley Pennell's The Angler-Naturalist (London, 1863, 8vo, illustrations, original cloth), the same author's Fishing Gossip (Edinburgh, 1866, 8vo, frontispiece and title vignette, contemporary half morocco, rubbed), Francis Francis's A Book of Angling ... Second Edition (London, 1867, 8vo, plates, original cloth, bookplate of the Oxford Union Society), W. Outram Tristram's Coaching Days and Coaching Ways (London, 1893, 8vo, illustrations, original cloth, dampstained) and The Modern Angler ... By "Otter". New Edition (London, 1898, 8vo plates and illustrations, original pictorial cloth gilt). (8)
