DERLETH, August (1909-71). Something Near. Sauk City, Wisconsin: Arkham House, 1945. 8vo (188 x 130mm). Half title, woodcut printer's device on the title (very lightly and consistently browned throughout, commensurate with wartime paper standards). Original black cloth, the spine lettered in gilt, the dust-jacket by Ronald Clyne with the price of $3.00 unclipped (some very minor rubbing to the corners of the jacket, some discolouration to the edges of the wrappers). FIRST EDITION. A printed note at the end states: "Two thousand copies of this book have been printed by The Collegiate Press, George Banta Publishing Company, from linotype Caledonia on Cream Eggshell. The binding cloth is Holliston Black Novelex." A note on the front turn-in states: "These twenty new stories by August Derleth include four tales in the Cthulhu Mythos pattern of the late great H. P. Lovecraft, two of them of novelette length." Please note that the original dust-jacket has been photographed in its modern protective archival Mylar wrapper, thereby avoiding any risk of damage through its temporary removal. Bleiler The Guide to Supernatural Fiction (1983) 519; Jaffery The Arkham House Companion (1992) 9.
