Wherein the Siedge of Kinsale, the Defeat of the Earle of Tyrone, and his Armie; the Expulsion and sending home of Dun Juan de Aguila, the Spanish Generall, with his Forces; and many other remarkable passages of that time are related. London: "Printed for Aug. Matthewes for Robert Milbourne, at the Signe of the Grey-hound in Pauls Church-yard," 1633. Folio (332 x 210mm). Fine engraved portrait of Elizabeth I, woodcut device on the title and at the end, initials and head-pieces, 16 engraved maps only, all but one double-page (lacking the portrait of Carew and 2 maps including the map of Munster by John Speed [as often], several maps detached, D3 torn [text leaf] without loss, dark spot on Mm3, a few blank corners torn away). Old calf spine still holding the text block, but lacking the covers. Provenance: old illegible inscription on the front free endpaper. FIRST EDITION. Please see Thomas Stafford's entry in DNB which expresses some doubts as to the attribution of this work, and even some confusion as to the author's identity. Brunet IV, 335: "Edition rare et recherchée, qui doit contenir 2 portr. (la reine Elizabeth et G. Carew), et plusieurs cartes, dont la première (Munster) manque souvent, ou est remplacée par une copie moderne ... [not the case in this copy]"; STC 23132.
