CHELSEA, LONDON - A Map of Chelsea, Surveyed in the Year 1664 by James Hamilton. Continued to 1717. [London:] J. Barlow, 1810 [or later]. Hand-coloured engraved plan by J. Barlow after Edward Ward, with an illustration of King Henry VIII's Manor House in Cheyne Walk and the obverse and reverse of a coin (torn without loss, some light spotting and staining), 290 x 440mm., framed and glazed. The map was first included in Thomas Faulkner's "Historical and Topographical Description of Chelsea", published in London in 1810, and an engraved dedication along the lower border reads, "To the Hon.ble and Rev.d Gerard Valerian Wellesley, Rector of Chelsea, this map is respectfully inscribed by his humble servant, Thos. Faulkner." The map appears in two states: one without the illustrations and without the text "Continued to 1717"; the other - as here - with both.
