1881-1885, comprising views of Anatolia, Egypt, Odessa, the Black Sea, Switzerland and other locations, some bearing the artist's monogram, watercolour on paper (some pasted down), typically 17.5cm x 25cm; together with a watercolour by the same hand depicting a garden scene, 25cm x 17cm; three leather attaché cases inscribed with Hardinge titles (including one made by T. J. Weeks & Sons, inscribed 'Charles Hardinge Xmas 1897');

an Edward VII silver cased miniature carriage timepiece, the engine turned case by Norman Marshall, London 1909, 7cm high, the top with Hardinge crest, with brown leather travelling case; a pair of George III silver fiddle and thread pattern soup spoons by Eley and Fearn, London 1802, each with engraved lion crest; a late Victorian silver plated chocolate pot with raffia handle, engraved with Hardinge crest; and an Elkington silver plated two division oval lidded water bath (a lot)

Charles Hardinge, 1st Baron Hardinge of Penshurst (1858-1944) was a British statesman who served as Viceroy and Governor-General of India from 1910-1916. 

He first joined the diplomatic service in 1880 and his early experience included posts in Berlin, Istanbul and Sofia. The present sketchbook, dating to this period, mainly depicts daily life in eastern Europe, north Africa and Turkey.
