Over 200 architects were invited to pitch for the project with Dominque Perrault's practice winning the commission. Perrault collaborated with Gaelle Lauriot- Prevost to design many of the fittings and furnishings for the interior, inclduing this series of chairs, which also went on sale to the public. The library opened 1996.
